Sue ha estado trabajando y coleccionando, durante el pasado año, Squares con motivos de las próximas Olimpiadas de Londres 2010 para realizar mantas con todos ellos. Su propósito es recolectar fondos para la Asociación de Alzheimer de Reino Unido.
Ha reunido alrededor de 300 Squares, algunos en rojo, blanco y azul, de atlétas, banderas de países, banderas olímpicas, aros olímpicos, etc. Multitud de personas solidarias han participado desinteresadamente realizándo estos maravillosos squares usando su imaginación y creatividad. Algunos de ellos están tejidos a dos agujas y otros a crochet.
Os muestro la manta terminada con 100 squares de banderas de países participantes. Está realizada por akarapacha de Fort Myers, USA, implicándose a fondo en el proyecto solidario de Sue.
La manta se compone de 100 Squares a crochet.
Maravilloso trabajo.

La siguiente manta se compone de 130 Squares, algunas tejidas a dos agujas y otras crocheteadas. Cada square está realizado según la visión particular de cada una de las participantes en este proyecto. No falta detalle, todo está incluido, aros olímpicos, la guardia real, el Big Ben, la bandera inglesa, la antorcha olímpica, etc.
A mi modesto entender, es la más bonita sin duda alguna.
Sencillamente, extraordinaria.

Estas otras más pequeñas están inspiradas en los colores de la bandera británica. Aunque pasan por alto el tema olímpico son muy bonitas.
Esta mantita está formada por 25 squares tejidos a crochet.
Y esta otra está formada por 49 squares tejidos a dos agujas y un poco a crochet. Se le ha llamado 'Jubilaton'.
Estas mantas serán subastadas en EBAY para recaudar fondos para la Asociación de Alzheimer (Alzheimer's Society) de Reino Unido. Sue espera recaudar un montón de dinero para ellos, y yo deseo que así sea.
Este tipo de iniciativas solidarias deberíamos ponerlas en práctica también en España.
Hace tiempo que colaboro con SIBOL, aunque no tanto como me gustaría, y he de decir que me encantan estas mantas conmemorativas de los JJOO. ¡Lástima --como dices-- que la tejedora de la manta de las banderas no incluyera la española!
